Learn Quranic Arabic > Online Quran Classes
Our top pick for online Quran classes is Firdaws Academy. On 14 October 2026 it listed private classes at $8.50 an hour, a free 30-minute trial before you pay, male or female tutors, and a refund of eligible unused classes if you stop mid-month. Quran Learning USA is cheaper at five or six classes a week.
This page covers classes where a teacher hears you read and recite the Quran: the letters, تَجْوِيد tajweed (the rules for pronouncing the Quran when it is recited, as Wiktionary defines it) and memorisation. Understanding the meaning is a different skill, covered on our page on how to learn Quranic Arabic for comprehension.
Nobody at OpenArabic has taken these classes, so this is not a review of the teaching. We checked what each provider promises in writing on its own website on 14 October 2026: price, trial, who teaches, and what happens to your money if you stop. Prices change, so check before you pay.
Eleven online Quran classes at a glance
A private hour of Quran reading or tajweed cost $6.25 to $10 at the academies we checked on 14 October 2026, so the terms separate them more than the price does. Most sell 30-minute classes by the month; we worked out the hourly figure from each plan.

How we chose
We started from the providers on Google's first page for "quran classes online" on 14 October 2026, added Firdaws Academy and Understand Al-Quran Academy, which our other guides already cover, Preply, Madinah Arabic's private lessons and one app, then read each provider's price, trial and terms pages. Four questions set the order.
- Is the price published? A fee you learn by email cannot be compared. One first-page academy failed this and is rejected below.
- What happens to your money if you stop? "Unused classes refunded" is worth more than a dollar an hour over "non-refundable after the first class".
- Can you try before you pay? Every academy here except Studio Arabiya offers a free trial; Studio Arabiya refunds you in the first week instead.
- Can you choose who teaches? Many families want a female teacher for women and girls, and many adults want one who holds an إِجَازَة ijāza (permission, licence), a teacher's authorisation to teach recitation.
We did not rate the teaching or count the reviews on providers' own sites, which we cannot check.
Firdaws Academy: our top pick
Firdaws Academy has the best written terms on this list at a price within $2.25 an hour of the cheapest. Its fees page gave $8.50 a study hour on 14 October 2026, in 15 plans from $17 a month for four 30-minute classes to $170 for twenty one-hour classes, for children and adults alike.
Its FAQ says to take the free 30-minute trial before paying, that male and female tutors are both available, and that it refunds "100% of eligible unused classes" if you stop during the month, with two days' notice. A parent and child can share a class at no extra fee, and certificates and ijazahs are listed as included. Our verdict: the safest place to start. Cancel a single class less than 4 hours ahead and it is normally not replaced. The same academy appears on our comparison of online Arabic courses at the same $8.50.
Understand Al-Quran Academy: recitation and meaning together
Understand Al-Quran Academy is the pick if you also want to understand what you recite. Its one-to-one page teaches reading, tajweed, word-by-word understanding and memorisation, and for Europe and the US listed eight 30-minute classes for $39 a month, up to twenty-four for $105, each plan with a 14-day refund policy. The trial needs no card and female teachers are available on request.
One catch: native Arabic teachers with an ijazah "may have an additional per-session fee", amount not stated. Our verdict: up to $1.25 an hour more than Firdaws, for a curriculum built around meaning. For tajweed alone, Firdaws gives more for the money.
Preply, Qutor and Madinah Arabic: choose your own teacher
On a marketplace you pick a teacher from profiles and pay the rate that teacher sets, where an academy assigns one.
Preply
Preply's Quran tutors page showed $13 to $41 per 50-minute lesson on its first page, and its FAQ gives $2 to $100 an hour, with an average of $10. If the first tutor is not a match, you can "try 2 more for free". There is no filter for the teacher's gender. Our verdict: the best way to choose a teacher yourself.
Qutor
Qutor's fees page sells monthly credits (10 for $10.99) and lists tutors at 6 to 30 credits an hour, plus a platform fee of "20% of the tutor's hourly rate or USD 1, whichever is greater". It has a list of female teachers and a "parental watch" for a child's lessons; unused credits expire after a year. Our verdict: good for parents who want to watch lessons; add the fee before you compare.
Madinah Arabic one-to-one
Madinah Arabic offers one-to-one Quran and tajweed lessons up to ijazah preparation. Its pricing page starts at $15 an hour, set by each teacher, paid per lesson. Our verdict: a higher starting rate than any academy here, and the only option with no subscription at all.
Five more academies, and what their terms say
These five sell monthly plans of private classes at roughly $6 to $10 an hour, and differ mainly in how they take payment and what they refund.
Quran Learning USA: the lowest hourly rate
Its prices page ran from $17 a month for four 30-minute classes to $75 for twenty-four, which is $6.25 an hour, the cheapest academy hour here. It offers a two-day trial, male and female teachers, and 5% off for each additional student. Fees are paid in advance, Eid holidays are not refunded, and no other refund terms are published. Our verdict: the cheapest for daily classes, such as a child memorising. Get the refund terms in writing first.
Azhar El-Quran
Its pricing page works out at $8 an hour on every plan, from $32 a month for eight 30-minute classes, and its trial form lets you ask for a female teacher. Its terms take the month in advance, let you cancel at most a quarter of a package, and refund only in three listed cases. Our verdict: fair, with tighter terms than Firdaws.
TarteeleQuran
Its fees page listed $40 a month for eight 30-minute classes ($10 an hour) and $175 for a memorisation plan. It adds "a nominal, one-time registration fee" of unstated size, and once the first class has run "the monthly fee becomes non-refundable". Our verdict: the weakest terms of the academies that publish a price.
E-Online Quran
Its pricing page offers a $10 first month after a one-week free trial, then $30 a month for two classes a week up to $85 for six. We found no refund or cancellation terms on the site. Our verdict: a cheap test; ask what happens to a paid month before paying for a second.
Studio Arabiya
Studio Arabiya lists its one-to-one courses, including Tajweed and Recitation for Adults, as "Starting at $55 Per Month", with male and female teachers and kids' tracks, but shows what the $55 buys only after you create an account. Its terms refund you only within the first week. Our verdict: the one academy price here we could not compare, so we cannot rank it.
Tarteel: practice between classes, not a teacher
Tarteel is an app that listens while you recite from memory. Its pricing page offered a free tier, Premium at $12.99 a month or $7.50 a month billed annually, and a five-account family plan at $13 a month, annual only. Premium detects "missed, incorrect and skipped words". By that description it checks words, not tajweed. Our verdict: strong memorisation practice between classes, and no substitute for a teacher's ear.
Rejected: Al-Azhar Classes
Al-Azhar Classes was on Google's first page for "quran classes online" on 14 October 2026, and we would not pay it. Its site shows no price. Its FAQ says fee and bank details come by email, "the fee has to be paid in a single attempt", and "if the student leaves in between, no refund shall be provided". A certificate costs extra, and a class you cancel "will be considered done". The teaching may be good; we cannot know. A single upfront payment of an unknown amount with no refund is the worst deal here, when every academy above publishes a monthly price.
Which class for which learner
Start from what you need, then from how you want to pay.

| To understand what you recite | Understand Al-Quran Academy | Word-by-word courses next to reading and tajweed, 14-day refund policy |
| Daily classes for a child memorising | Quran Learning USA | $75 for 24 classes a month, $6.25 an hour |
| To choose the teacher yourself | Preply | Profiles to compare, two free switches if the first tutor is wrong |
| To watch a child's lessons from another room | Qutor | Parental watch and a female teachers list |
| Lessons with no subscription | Madinah Arabic one-to-one | Pay per lesson, from $15 an hour |
| Practice between classes | Tarteel | Free tier; flags missed and wrong words while you recite |
Before the first class
A paid hour goes further when you arrive knowing the letters. Learn how the letters join before a first class, then practise reading short Arabic words with the vowel marks. Once lessons start, the most common words in the Quran and our Quran vocabulary with English translation help you learn what you recite. Frequently asked questions
Which online Quran class is the best?
For most learners, Firdaws Academy. On 14 October 2026 it listed private classes at $8.50 an hour, a free 30-minute trial before you pay anything, male and female tutors, and a refund of 100% of eligible unused classes if you stop during the month. If you want to understand what you recite as well as recite it, Understand Al-Quran Academy is the better fit. If you want to pick your own teacher from profiles, Preply.
How much does an online Quran class cost?
Among the academies we compared on 14 October 2026, a private hour of reading or tajweed cost from $6.25 at Quran Learning USA, on its plan of 24 half-hour classes a month, to $10 at TarteeleQuran on its smallest plan. Most sat between $8 and $10 an hour, sold as monthly plans of 30-minute classes. Memorisation plans can cost more: TarteeleQuran charged $175 for 20 half-hour classes. On the tutor marketplaces each teacher sets a rate: Preply's own figures are $2 to $100 an hour, with an average of $10.
Is it possible to learn the Quran online?
Learning to read and recite it, yes, as long as a live teacher hears you. Tajweed is corrected by ear, so a video call with a teacher who stops you on a wrong letter works, and a recorded course on its own does not. An app such as Tarteel can catch missed or wrong words while you memorise, but it does not replace the teacher.
Are there free online Quran classes?
Live classes with a teacher are not free, but most academies on our list offer a free trial: one 30-minute lesson at Firdaws Academy, two days at Quran Learning USA and a week at E-Online Quran. For free self-study, Understand Al-Quran Academy publishes its recorded tajweed course at no cost, and Tarteel has a free tier that follows your recitation.
What is the best website for learning Quran online?
It depends on how you want to buy. To be matched with a teacher by an academy, Firdaws Academy had the best published terms on 14 October 2026. To choose a teacher yourself, Preply lets you switch tutors twice for free if the first is not a match. For practice between classes, the Tarteel app.
