The Best Islamic Calendar Apps for Hijri Dates, Compared

Updated November 2026

A thin crescent moon alone in a black night sky

The best Islamic calendar app on Android is Hijri Calendar & Prayer Times by Ibrahim Alhazmi. On 2 November 2026 its Google Play listing named the Umm al-Qura calendar, a one- or two-day date shift for local moon sighting, seven widgets and prayer times, with 5M+ downloads. It shows ads. On iPhone, pick Islamic Calendar & Prayer Time.

An Islamic calendar app shows the هِجْرِي hijrī (Hijri, the Islamic lunar) date next to the Gregorian one, marks Ramadan, the two Eids and the other holy days, and usually puts today's Hijri date on your home screen. Most of them also give prayer times. They differ on price, ads, widgets and, most of all, on how they decide which day a month starts.

We read each app's own store listing on 2 November 2026: Google Play and the App Store for the United States. Nobody at OpenArabic has used these apps for months, so this is a comparison of what each listing promises, not a review of how the app feels. Listings change, so check the store before you pay for anything.

Ten Islamic calendar apps at a glance

All ten apps are free to download. Two carry no ads label and sell nothing; the rest show ads, sell a paid plan, or both. "Not stated" means the listing we read did not mention the feature; the app may still have it.

Ratings are what the US stores showed on 2 November 2026. Google Play counts reviews and rounds them; the App Store figure is its count of ratings. A rating from a few dozen people says little.

Which Hijri method does each app use?

Only two of the ten listings say which calendar they compute, and both say Umm al-Qura. Hijri Calendar & Prayer Times calls itself "compatible with the Umm Al-Qura calendar", and Athan's Google Play listing names its 1448 calendar تقويم أم القرى taqwīm umm al-qurā (the Umm al-Qura calendar). The other eight do not say. Four of them offer a manual shift of up to two days instead, and one more promises "moon-sighting support for your region".

The method matters because there are two ways to start a Hijri month. أُمّ القُرَى Umm al-Qurā (mother of the towns, a name for Mecca) is Saudi Arabia's calendar, computed in advance, and it is what our Hijri date converter for today and any other day show. Many countries and mosques start a month only after رُؤْيَة الهِلَال ru'yat al-hilāl (sighting of the new crescent). The two can fall a day apart, and so two apps on the same phone can disagree.

The date adjustment is how you deal with it: if your mosque announces Ramadan a day after your app expected it, move the app by plus one day and it will match until the next disagreement. An app with no adjustment, and no stated method, cannot be trusted for the start of Ramadan or Eid in your country. For the expected dates of next year, our Islamic calendar for 2027 with printable month grids lists every month start by Umm al-Qura.

How we chose

We started from what Google showed for "islamic calendar app" on 2 November 2026: seven of the nine results were single store listings and download sites, and no page compared the apps. So we searched Google Play and the App Store for "islamic calendar", "hijri calendar" and "hijri widget", read more than thirty listings, and kept the apps that passed three tests.

  • Is the Hijri calendar a real feature? The listing has to describe the calendar, not just mention it. An all-in-one prayer app stayed in only when its listing says what its calendar does.
  • Is it kept up? We dropped apps whose listing had not been updated since 2020 or earlier.
  • Do enough people use it? We kept apps with at least 10K downloads on Google Play or a thousand ratings on the App Store.

We sell no app and earn nothing from any link on this page. Every outbound link goes to the app's own store listing.

Hijri Calendar & Prayer Times: our top pick on Android

Hijri Calendar & Prayer Times is the best Islamic calendar app on Android because it is the only one here that both names its method and lets you correct it. Its Google Play listing says it is "compatible with the Umm Al-Qura calendar" and that you can adjust the Hijri date "by increasing or decreasing one or two days".

The listing names seven widgets: today's date, the month, a digital clock, a countdown, a list of the day's events and two prayer-time layouts. You can add your own events and repeat a reminder every Hijri or Gregorian year, which suits a birthday or a death anniversary kept by the Hijri date. It converts dates both ways and counts the days between two dates. Prayer times come with iqama and qiyam reminders, a travel mode and a Qibla compass.

It has two drawbacks. It carries the "Contains ads" label, and the Android listing was last updated on 18 October 2025, more than a year before we read it. An App Store listing with the same text, under the name Ibrahim Hamed, had 4 ratings and had not been updated since October 2024, and its text does not mention the date adjustment or the widgets.

Our verdict: top pick on Android, ads included. iPhone users should look at the next app.

Islamic Calendar & Prayer Time: the pick on iPhone

Islamic Calendar & Prayer Time is the strongest calendar-first app on iPhone, with 4.7 stars from 3,282 ratings in the US App Store. Its App Store listing describes the Hijri calendar with religious events and moon phases, a Hijri converter, free home-screen widgets and Ramadan sehri and iftar times. Its Google Play listing shows 1M+ downloads and the "Contains ads" label.

It is also a full prayer app: prayer times with your chosen calculation method, the Quran with 40 translations, a collection of duas, the 99 Names of Allah with audio, a tasbih counter and Eid greeting cards. The app runs in eight languages, French, Turkish, Indonesian and Arabic among them. Pro unlocks extra themes; the listings do not give its price.

What it does not say is which Hijri method it uses or whether you can shift the date. The listing names neither, so check the date against your mosque before Ramadan.

Our verdict: the best choice on iPhone if you want a calendar first and prayer times second. Its duas are a list inside the app; for the Quranic duas with full harakat to print, see our printable Quranic duas with verse references.

Athan by IslamicFinder: Umm al-Qura inside a prayer app

Athan is a prayer-times app with an Islamic calendar inside, and it is the only prayer-first app here whose listing names its calendar method. The Athan Google Play listing lists "Islamic Calendar 2026" with the Arabic label for the Umm al-Qura calendar of 1448, next to prayer times with an adhan alarm, a prayer-times widget, the Quran in 45+ languages and duas and athkar with audio.

It is the most-reviewed app in our table: 4.9 stars from 334K reviews and 10M+ downloads on Google Play, and 4.8 from 50,676 ratings on the App Store, where the seller is listed as Wasat Alnaseej Trading Est. It carries the "Contains ads" and "In-app purchases" labels. Its only listed widget is for prayer times, not the Hijri date.

Our verdict: if you already pray by Athan, its calendar is enough. If you want the Hijri date on your home screen, add a widget app.

Hijri Calendar 2027 - Widget: the most detailed widget set

Hijri Calendar 2027 - Widget from SocioTech Media gives the widest choice of home-screen widgets on Android, with a Hijri date shift that names both rules. Its Google Play listing offers a shift of plus or minus one or two days "to match local crescent sighting or the Umm al-Qura calendar", and four widget styles: the Hijri date, prayer times, a daily dua and a Sunnah fasting tracker.

The listing also names alerts for the expected new crescent at month end, the White Days (the 13th to 15th of each month) and Monday and Thursday fasts, and a Hijri birthday calculator. Its daily duas come in Arabic with tashkeel, transliteration and English. It had 4.5 stars from 880 reviews and 100K+ downloads, with the "Contains ads" label and no in-app purchases.

Our verdict: the widget app to install if you fast the Sunnah days and want reminders. It does not say which method it starts from, so set the shift once against your local calendar.

Hijri Today: a widget with no ads

Hijri Today from FlagoDNA is the one to choose if you want only the Hijri date on your home screen, free and without ads. Its Google Play listing says "100% Free" and "No Advertisements", and it carried neither the ads nor the in-app purchases label on 2 November 2026.

The listing names five widget styles, among them a minimal one and an Arabic one, a plus or minus two-day adjustment, reminders for Ramadan, the Eids, Ashura and the Sunnah fasts, and 37 languages. The widget refreshes at 6 PM and at midnight, because the Hijri day begins at sunset. It can also show the Javanese market day (pasaran) for Javanese users. There are no prayer times. It had 4.6 stars from 546 reviews and 10K+ downloads.

Our verdict: the cleanest option for a date on your screen and nothing else. Pair it with a prayer app if you need one.

Hijri Islamic Calendar & Quran: offline, with a warning about ads

Hijri Islamic Calendar & Quran from Alhamry-App is the only listing here that says its calendar works offline. Its Google Play listing says "Calendar calculations and bundled Quran text work offline", offers a Hijri shift of up to two days, recurring events in either calendar, a full Quran with Madani and IndoPak scripts, adhkar, a zakat calculator and widgets, in 19 interface languages.

The labels and the text disagree. Google Play showed no "Contains ads" label, yet the description says "The app includes ads and optional in-app purchases" and that some features "have free-use limits or require an unlock". Its rating, 3.7 stars from 889 reviews, is the lowest on this page.

Our verdict: worth it if you travel without data and want the Quran in the same app. Expect ads despite the missing label.

Muslim Calendar - Hijri Date: Apple Watch and Wear OS

Muslim Calendar - Hijri Date is the pick if you want the Hijri date on a watch. Its App Store listing lists Apple Watch and Wear OS apps and home and lock-screen widgets for the Hijri calendar, a Quran verse and a dua of the day. It promises "moon-sighting support for your region" without saying how far the date can move.

It calls itself "distraction-free", but the Google Play listing carries the "Contains ads" label, and the App Store text says Pro "unlocks an ad-free experience, premium widgets, offline Quran audio". It is small so far: 10K+ downloads, 4.8 from 542 reviews on Google Play and from 43 ratings on the App Store.

Our verdict: a newer app that is good on paper. Try the free version before paying for Pro.

Two Arabic-language calendars for iPhone

Two of the best-rated Hijri calendars on the US App Store are written in Arabic, and both are built around Saudi dates. If you read Arabic, they are worth a look, and if you are still learning, a calendar app is easy daily reading practice; our Arabic learning resources sorted by level list the courses that get you there. The month names they show are in our list of the twelve Hijri month names in Arabic script.

Hilal Calendar (تقويم هلال)

تقويم هلال taqwīm hilāl (crescent calendar) is a full diary with the Hijri date beside the Gregorian one. Its App Store listing, in Arabic, names widgets in several sizes, Apple Watch support, the Hijri date on the app icon, prayer times with the adhan, sync with the iPhone calendar, and the Saudi school calendar with local and religious holidays for Saudi Arabia and the United States. It had 4.2 stars from 3,670 ratings. Extra features come with an auto-renewing subscription whose price the listing does not give, and it does not name its Hijri method.

التقويم الهجري والميلادي (Hijri and Gregorian Calendar)

التقويم الهجري والميلادي at-taqwīm al-hijrī wal-mīlādī (the Hijri and Gregorian calendar) from Yahya Alzahrani is the simpler of the two. Its App Store listing names both dates side by side, a converter, prayer times, a Ramadan timetable, a countdown to holidays and widgets, in Arabic, English and French. The core is free with ads, removed by a monthly or yearly plan or a one-time purchase. It had 4.6 stars from 1,383 ratings and was updated on 30 October 2026.

Our verdict: Hilal if you want a diary, the Hijri and Gregorian Calendar if you want a date and a converter.

Kalender Hijriah: for Indonesia

Kalender Hijriah from Dariyanto Dev is the calendar for Indonesian users, and the only one here that exports your events. Its Google Play listing shows Hijri and Gregorian dates side by side, a shift from minus two to plus two days, Indonesian holidays such as Isra Mi'raj and Nisfu Sya'ban, fasting days colored on the calendar, and prayer times by the method of Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs. Your agenda can be exported as an .ics file for any other calendar app.

It carried no ads or in-app purchases label, had 50K+ downloads and 4.8 stars, and was updated on 31 October 2026. If you have no location set, its prayer times default to Jakarta.

Our verdict: the first install for an Indonesian reader. Outside Indonesia, its holidays and prayer method fit less well.

Apps we left out, and why

Four apps that come up in the stores did not make the list, each on the evidence of its own listing.

Hijri Cal: not updated since 2020

Hijri Cal by Ramy Gamal has 4.6 stars from 852 ratings and a useful any-number-of-days date adjustment. But its App Store listing was last updated on 12 December 2020, and the full app is a seven-day trial before it asks you to upgrade.

Islamic Calendar by Tarek Mansour: last updated in 2013

The App Store listing of Islamic Calendar still advertises support for iPhone 5 screens and was last updated on 15 March 2013. The listing itself points readers to a newer Pro version.

Muslim Pro: the Android listing does not mention a calendar

Muslim Pro has 4.7 stars from 600,729 ratings on the App Store, more than any app on this page. Its iPhone listing mentions "accurate Hijri date calculation", but its Google Play listing does not mention a calendar at all, and puts the offline Quran and the ad-free interface behind Premium. That is too little to judge it as a calendar. Our comparison of Quran apps by price and ads covers it as a Quran app.

Hijri Widget: a one-line listing

Hijri Widget by amrbashir is open source, ad-free and rated 4.7 from 147 reviews on Google Play. Its whole listing is one sentence, so we could not tell which method it uses or whether it adjusts. One more app we could not check: the sighting-based Hijri Calendar Widgets from the UK moon sighting group ICOUK. Its own page links to both stores, but neither listing could be found in the US stores on 2 November 2026.

Which app for which need

Choose by what you need on the screen: a calendar app built for widgets is the wrong tool for prayer times, and the other way round.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Islamic calendar app?

On Android, Hijri Calendar & Prayer Times by Ibrahim Alhazmi. On 2 November 2026 its Google Play listing named the Umm al-Qura calendar, let you move the Hijri date one or two days to match a local sighting, and listed seven widgets and prayer times, with 5M+ downloads and 4.8 stars from 70.4K reviews. It shows ads. On iPhone, Islamic Calendar & Prayer Time, rated 4.7 from 3,282 ratings in the US App Store.

Is there a free Islamic calendar app with no ads?

Yes. Hijri Today, a home-screen widget app for Android, says it is 100% free with no advertisements, and on 2 November 2026 its Google Play listing carried neither the Contains ads nor the In-app purchases label. Kalender Hijriah, an Android calendar built for Indonesia, carried neither label either. Most of the bigger apps show ads and sell a plan that removes them.

Which Islamic calendar app uses Umm al-Qura?

Of the apps we compared on 2 November 2026, two name it on their listings: Hijri Calendar & Prayer Times (compatible with the Umm Al-Qura calendar) and Athan by IslamicFinder, whose Google Play listing names its Islamic calendar for 1448 as the Umm al-Qura calendar. Hijri Calendar 2027 - Widget offers a one- or two-day shift to match Umm al-Qura or a local sighting.

Why do two Hijri calendar apps show different dates?

Because a Hijri month can start on two different rules. Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura calendar is computed in advance, while many countries and mosques start a month only when the new crescent is seen. The two can be a day apart. That is why most apps let you shift the Hijri date by one or two days to match where you live.

Can an app tell me when Ramadan or Eid starts?

An app can tell you the expected date, and most of them mark Ramadan and the two Eids in advance. The real start is still announced by your country or mosque after the moon is sighted, and it can move by a day. Set the app's date adjustment to match your local announcement.
