Ramadan 2027: When It Starts and Your City's Fasting Times

Arabic Vocabulary Lists > Ramadan 2027

Ramadan 2027 (Ramadan 1448) begins at sunset on Sunday 7 February, and the first fast is Monday 8 February, by Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura calendar. The month has 29 days, so Eid al-Fitr is Tuesday 9 March. Where Ramadan starts on a local sighting of the new moon, every date can move one day later.

The timetable needs JavaScript. The table of 16 cities further down this page gives the fasting hours on the first and the last day.

Dates: the Umm al-Qura calendar. Times: Fajr with the sun 18° below the horizon (Muslim World League), iftar at sunset, in the city's local time, rounded to the minute. Many timetables print imsak about 10 minutes before Fajr. Your local mosque's timetable governs.

When is Ramadan 2027? The dates at a glance

The Umm al-Qura calendar puts the first fast of Ramadan 2027 on Monday 8 February, the last on Monday 8 March, and Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday 9 March. The second column is the same month started one day later, which is what you get where the crescent is not seen on the first evening. The tool above has the same switch.

The odd nights of the last ten (the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th) are marked in the timetable on the day whose sunset begins them. They are the nights on which لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْر (laylat al-qadr, the Night of Power) is sought. Sunni Muslims give the 27th the most weight and Shia Muslims the 23rd (Wikipedia, Laylat al-Qadr). How long is the fast in Ramadan 2027?

The first fast of Ramadan 2027 lasts between 10 h 58 min (Oslo) and 15 h 04 min (Sydney) in the 16 cities below. By the 29th fast the spread shrinks to under an hour, 13 h 04 min to 14 h 00 min, because 8 March is twelve days before the March equinox, when day and night are nearly equal everywhere. Times are local, from the end of suhoor (Fajr) to iftar (sunset).

North of the equator the fast grows through the month: Oslo adds 2 h 27 min between the first day and the last, London 1 h 45 min. South of it the fast shrinks: Sydney loses an hour. Near the equator it hardly moves, one minute in Kuala Lumpur. Even near the equinox the fast lasts about 13 hours, because it starts at first light, more than an hour before sunrise.

How the timetable is calculated

The timetable takes its dates from the Umm al-Qura calendar and its times from the position of the sun. Your browser reads 1 Ramadan 1448 from its own built-in Umm al-Qura calendar, then works out two moments for each day with the solar equations of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Suhoor ends at Fajr, when the sun is 18° below the horizon, the Muslim World League angle. Iftar is at sunset, when the top edge of the sun meets the horizon (−0.833°, which allows for the bending of light by the air).

Both times are rounded to the nearest minute and shown in the city's own time zone. We checked Mecca, London and New York on 8 February, 22 February and 8 March against the AlAdhan prayer-times service, using the same Muslim World League method. 17 of the 18 times matched to the minute, and the other was one minute off. AlAdhan also prints imsak 10 minutes before Fajr, a safety margin many timetables add. We show Fajr itself.

Other bodies use other angles (PrayTimes, calculation methods). Umm al-Qura uses 18.5°, which moves Fajr in Mecca two minutes earlier (05:38 on 8 February). The Islamic Society of North America uses 15°, which moves Fajr in New York 16 minutes later (05:42). If your mosque's timetable differs from ours by a few minutes, a different angle is the likely reason, and the mosque's timetable is the one to follow.

Morocco puts its clocks back an hour for Ramadan. The IANA time-zone database (version 2026a) puts Casablanca on UTC+0 from 7 February to 14 March 2027; if Morocco announces other dates, the Casablanca times move by an hour.

Where the sun never sinks 18° below the horizon, as in northern Europe in summer, the tool switches to the one-seventh-of-the-night rule and says so in the row. No city on the list needs it in February or March: Oslo and Stockholm both get a full dawn twilight.

Why Ramadan 2027 can start a day later

Ramadan can start a day later than 8 February because many communities begin it only when the new crescent is seen, while Umm al-Qura is calculated in advance. If the crescent is not seen on the first evening, the month that is ending is completed to 30 days and Ramadan begins a day after the printed date. The same rule at the other end decides whether Ramadan has 29 or 30 days, which is why Eid al-Fitr is never certain until the night before.

Use the Umm al-Qura dates to plan and the switch above to see the later version, then check your mosque's announcement at the end of Shaban. To convert any other date between the two calendars, use our Hijri date today converter. The names of Ramadan, Shaban and the other months, and what they mean, are on our Arabic months page.

Frequently asked questions

Is there going to be two Ramadans in 2027?

No. By the Umm al-Qura calendar, Ramadan begins once in 2027, on Monday 8 February (Ramadan 1448). The next Gregorian year with two Ramadan starts is 2030: Ramadan 1451 begins on 5 January 2030 and Ramadan 1452 on 26 December 2030. It happens because the Hijri year is 10 or 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, so Ramadan comes earlier every year.

What is the expected date of Ramadan 2027?

The first fast is Monday 8 February 2027 by the Umm al-Qura calendar, and the first night, with the first tarawih prayer, is the evening of Sunday 7 February. Where Ramadan starts when the new crescent is seen locally, the first fast can be Tuesday 9 February instead. Your mosque announces the start at the end of Shaban.

How many hours is the fast in Ramadan 2027?

It depends on the city. Counted from Fajr (the sun 18 degrees below the horizon) to sunset, the first fast on 8 February lasts 11 h 28 min in London, 11 h 56 min in New York, 12 h 35 min in Mecca and 13 h 33 min in Jakarta. By the 29th fast on 8 March, all 16 cities in our table fast between 13 h 04 min and 14 h 00 min.

When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?

Tuesday 9 March 2027 by the Umm al-Qura calendar, after a 29-day Ramadan. If the month runs to 30 days, or starts a day later on a local sighting, Eid moves to Wednesday 10 March. With both a late start and a 30-day month it is Thursday 11 March.

What time is iftar in Mecca in Ramadan 2027?

Sunset in Mecca is at 18:15 on the first fast (Monday 8 February) and 18:27 on the 29th (Monday 8 March), Saudi time. Suhoor ends at Fajr, 05:40 on the first day and 05:22 on the last, with the Muslim World League's 18 degrees. Saudi Arabia's own Umm al-Qura timetable uses 18.5 degrees, which puts Fajr about two minutes earlier.
