Across 18 countries, the largest Arabic-related searches are practical: translation in the US (246,000 a month each way), today's Hijri date in Saudi Arabia (368,000) and Egypt (301,000), the Arabic letters in Indonesia (301,000) and an Arabic keyboard in France (74,000). Americans also look up habibi and inshallah, 90,500 times a month each.
These Arabic search statistics are Google Ads average monthly search volumes, collected through the DataForSEO API between 25 August and 5 October 2026 while planning this site. The method and its limits are at the end, with a CSV of every table.
- The two largest Arabic searches in the US are translation: "english to arabic" and "arabic to english", 246,000 a month each.
- Six of the 20 largest US Arabic searches ask what an Arabic word means. One asks how to learn Arabic.
- France searches for an Arabic keyboard 1.5 times as often as the US: 74,000 against 49,500 a month.
- Indonesia searches for the Arabic letters about five times as often as the US: 301,000 against 60,500.
- "Ramadan mubarak" went from 450,000 US searches in February 2026 to 590 in August.
Translation is the largest Arabic search in the US
In the United States, translation is the largest Arabic-related search: "english to arabic" and "arabic to english" each get 246,000 searches a month, more than any learning term we measured. Five of the 20 largest families below are translation, six ask what an Arabic word means (a seventh is the bare word "habibi"), and one, "how to learn arabic", is about learning the language.
A family here is one search and its close variants. Google Ads gives "arabic keyboard", "keyboard arabic" and "arabic keyboard arabic" the same number, so we count them once; the second column says how many phrasings were folded into each row. "Arabic numerals" is mostly about the digits 0 to 9 that English itself uses, as its variants ("hindu-arabic numbers", "indo arabic numerals") show. "Sarah arabic" is people looking for the name Sarah in Arabic script, which is why we made Sarah written in Arabic calligraphy.

Google Translate handles Modern Standard Arabic. The spoken dialects are a different problem: our Arabic dialect phrasebook collects everyday phrases from our dialect pages, and our overview of the Arabic dialects explains how they differ.
The largest Arabic search in each of 18 countries
Outside the US, the largest Arabic searches we measured are التاريخ الهجري اليوم (at-tārīkh al-hijrī al-yawm, today's Hijri date) in Saudi Arabia at 368,000 a month and Egypt at 301,000, and "huruf hijaiyah", the Arabic letters, in Indonesia at 301,000.
The US column rests on 1,378 search terms. Every other country rests on the 10 terms we chose to look up there (20 in Pakistan, in Urdu and English), so read this table as "the largest of what we measured", not as a ranking of everything people in that country search. The alphabet or the letters lead in the United Kingdom, India, the Netherlands, Brazil and Mexico, and tie for first in Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Bangladesh. The keyboard leads in France, Pakistan and Spain. Numbers lead in Türkiye ("arapça sayılar", 33,100) and Germany ("arabische zahlen", 14,800), where, as in English, the phrase also means the digits 0 to 9; our page on Arabic numbers and the Eastern Arabic digits covers both.

The other large terms we measured in Saudi Arabia and Egypt are for children's content in Arabic: قصص اطفال (qiṣaṣ aṭfāl, children's stories: 27,100 in Saudi Arabia, 18,100 in Egypt) and كرتون اطفال (kartūn aṭfāl, children's cartoons: 4,400 and 33,100). For the date itself in English, see today's Hijri date. In Malaysia the largest term is "jawi" (27,100), the Arabic-based script used to write Malay. In the United Kingdom, "tajweed rules" gets 1,300 searches a month; our tajweed rules chart covers it.
The Arabic keyboard: France searches more than the US
France searches for an Arabic keyboard more than any other country we measured: "clavier arabe" gets 74,000 searches a month, about 1.5 times the 49,500 for "arabic keyboard" in the United States.
Across the 18 countries, the keyboard terms add up to 236,560 searches a month, and 55% of that is in a language other than English. Pakistan, India, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom use the English phrase. Saudi Arabia and Egypt use the English loanword in Arabic script, كيبورد عربي (kībūrd ʿarabī). Bangladesh searches the English phrase five times as often as the Bengali one. The Urdu term returned no volume. Our online Arabic keyboard types Arabic in the browser, with nothing to install.

The Arabic alphabet: Indonesia searches five times as much as the US
Indonesia searches for the Arabic alphabet about five times as often as the United States: 301,000 searches a month for "huruf hijaiyah" against 60,500 for "arabic alphabet".
Huruf hijaiyah is the name Indonesian and Malay use for the Arabic letters, and Malaysia searches it 14,800 times a month. Across the 18 countries, alphabet and letters terms add up to 611,390 searches a month, 81% of them in a language other than English. Several countries search for "letters" more than for "alphabet": Türkiye ("arapça harfler" 22,200, "arapça alfabe" 6,600) and Mexico ("letras árabes" 8,100, "alfabeto árabe" 1,900). In Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Brazil the word for alphabet wins. All 28 letters, with their four positional forms, are on our Arabic alphabet chart.

What does habibi mean? The meaning searches
Americans search for what Arabic words mean far more than for how to learn Arabic: the eight meaning searches below add up to 410,800 a month, 4.3 times the 95,900 of the two "learn Arabic" families ("learn arabic" and "how to learn arabic").
They also search for the meaning 5 to 25 times as often as for the word written in Arabic. "Inshallah meaning" gets 90,500 searches a month and "inshallah in arabic" 3,600. Alhamdulillah has the smallest gap, 33,100 against 6,600. The bare word "habibi" gets another 110,000 a month on top of "habibi meaning". "How to learn arabic" gets 80% of its yearly total from May to July 2026 (see the next section), and "wallah meaning", a second spelling of wallahi, is a separate family with another 6,600 searches. Each word in the table links to our page on what it means, how to reply and how it is used.

Ramadan and Eid: the most seasonal Arabic searches
Ramadan greetings are the most seasonal Arabic searches in the US: "ramadan mubarak" got 450,000 searches in February 2026, the month Ramadan began, and 590 in August.
Ramadan 2026 ran from 18 February to 19 March in the Umm al-Qura calendar, Eid al-Fitr fell on 20 March and Eid al-Adha on 27 May (the same dates are in our Hijri calendar table). "Eid mubarak" follows both feasts: 1,000,000 searches in March 2026, 301,000 in May, 8,100 in August. "Ramadan activities" peaks at 1,600 in February and drops to 10 from June to August. The two greetings have their own pages, Ramadan Mubarak in Arabic and Eid Mubarak in Arabic.
"Ramadan 2027" already got 110,000 searches in August 2026, about six months before Ramadan 2027 begins on 8 February 2027; our Ramadan 2027 timetable gives the dates and fasting times by city. The head terms barely move by comparison: "arabic" stays between 74,000 and 110,000 a month, and "arabic alphabet" between 49,500 and 74,000, lowest from June to August.

Two series hold one month far above the rest, and we report them without explaining them: "arabic numerals" had 1,000,000 searches in November 2025 against 33,100 to 90,500 in every other month, and "how to learn arabic" had 450,000 in May 2026 after five months at 1,900 (September to January). "Wallahi meaning" and "habibti meaning" also rose in spring 2026: wallahi from 33,100 in September 2025 to 135,000 in April and May, habibti to 90,500 in May against 9,900 in most months. All monthly values are in the CSV.
Year over year: what the data can say
Only two searches in our data can be compared a year apart, and both fell by one Google Ads step: "arabic alphabet" from 60,500 in August 2025 to 49,500 in August 2026, about 18% lower, and "learn arabic" from 5,400 to 4,400, also about 18%.
Each fetch returns 12 months, so a same-month comparison needs two fetches of one term. These two terms were fetched on 25 August and 5 October 2026, and the two series agree exactly on the 11 months they share, which is what makes joining them safe. A one-step drop between Google Ads buckets can come from a much smaller real change near a bucket edge, so the true fall may be well under 18%.
| Search | August 2025 | August 2026 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| learn arabic | 5,400 | 4,400 | -18.5% |
| arabic alphabet | 60,500 | 49,500 | -18.2% |
Method and limits (October 2026)
The numbers are Google Ads search volumes, the estimates Google shows advertisers, as returned by two DataForSEO services: its Google Ads search volume endpoint and its Labs keyword suggestions. Where one term was fetched through both, 14 of 17 volumes are identical and the other 3 differ by one step, each pair fetched on different dates. All volumes were fetched between 25 August 2026 and 5 October 2026. Each average covers the 12 months before its fetch, and the monthly series run from August 2025 to August 2026.
- A volume is the average number of Google searches a month for that term in that country, rounded by Google to a fixed ladder of values (10, 20, 30 … 1,000, 1,300, 1,600 … 49,500, 60,500, 74,000, 90,500, 110,000 and so on). Our data holds 46 distinct averages, from 10 to 368,000. Two terms one step apart can differ by much less than the numbers suggest.
- A volume counts searches, not people. It covers Google only, not Bing, Yandex, Naver, ChatGPT or app stores. It is an estimate Google publishes for advertisers, not a log count.
- Google Ads reports one volume for a search and its close variants, so adding them up would count the same searches many times. We merged terms that share country, language, volume, cost per click and the full 12-month series into one family: 1,498 term-country pairs with a volume became 828 families. A term without a full series joins a family only when exactly one family matches.
- Of 656 US families, we set aside 77 that use the word Arabic without being about the language (food, restaurants, shops, perfume, news channels, films, dance classes, gum arabic, henna designs and misspellings of Saudi Arabia) and 15 we could not place. The US table ranks the other 564.
- The terms are the ones we looked up while planning this site, not a census of Arabic searches: 1,378 in the US, and 10 in each of the other 17 countries (20 in Pakistan). 60 term-country pairs returned no volume.
- Volumes are not divided by population or internet users, so a large country is not "more interested" because its number is bigger.
- Ramadan and Eid dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar, as on our Hijri date page. No analytics from openarabic.org itself are used.
